After relocating to Austin, Texas, Russell recorded a bold album of richly penned songs that merged his distinctly soulful “Jazzicana" by addressing his deep respect for jazz, classic country and roots music.
Recorded in '04 -'05 and officially released during an appearance at the prestigious Newport Folk Festival, Salt was nominated for IMA "Album of the Year" in '06. This album ignited Russell's recognition as one the top-shelf, one-of-a-kind songwriters and guitarists in the country. Features the stellar steel guitar and Dobro playing of Danny Bennett and bassist extraordinaire, Tom Benton. A guest vocal appearance by Megan Melara fills out this genuinely talented cast of Austin based musicians.
